At The Orb, independent designers and studios sit at the centre of everything we do. We operate as a gallery, not a conventional furniture brand. Our role is to amplify the voices, practices, and material explorations of designers working across borders, disciplines, and scales.
Each designer we work with brings a distinctive worldview to their practice. Some focus on material innovation, others on historical reference or sculptural form. Together, they form a global roster united by a shared commitment to craft, authorship, and intentional design.
Our designers span Europe, North America, and beyond. They include established names like Gregory Benson, Jan Garncarek, and Shinichiro Ogata, alongside emerging voices like Caia Leifsdotter, Veermakers, and Estudio Persona. Each practices with autonomy and vision, often running small studios focused on experimentation and craft.
We work with designers whose practices sit comfortably between furniture, sculpture, and architecture. Their work challenges conventional categories and refuses to follow trend cycles.
Many of our designers work fluidly across product categories. A designer might create seating, lighting, and objects within the same studio practice. This breadth of vision is celebrated at The Orb. We present designers as singular voices rather than compartmentalizing their work into narrow categories.
This approach reflects how designers actually work, and it reinforces the idea of authorship as central to understanding collectible design.
Many of the pieces created by our designers are produced in small studios alongside skilled craftspeople. Production runs are often limited, and many works are handmade or artisan-made. This approach to making reinforces the value of each piece within a collectible design context.
Studio-made production allows designers to maintain control over quality, finish, and the final expression of their ideas.
The Orb is committed to balancing emerging designers with more established practitioners. Emerging designers often bring fresh perspective and experimental approaches, while established designers bring depth, refined technique, and historical grounding.
This balance ensures that The Orb presents a dynamic, evolving view of contemporary collectible design rather than a static, retrospective one.
