Sculptural Forms With a Human Pulse

The Bio

Valeria Vasi is a Moscow-born designer based in Barcelona whose practice sits at the intersection of art, design, and contemporary craftsmanship. Trained in fashion, she transitioned into design through a growing interest in material research and artisanal processes, developing a practice grounded in direct engagement with matter and making.

Her work is rooted in close collaboration with local artisans, forming an ongoing exchange in which each project becomes a site of shared learning and experimentation. Working primarily with iron, wood, and stainless steel, as well as glass and ceramics, Valeria approaches materials not as fixed mediums but as evolving systems—each with its own constraints, possibilities, and modes of expression. Every project expands this material vocabulary, allowing her practice to evolve through the introduction of new techniques and forms of production.

The Conversation

Visiting Valeria Vasi in Barcelona means being welcomed into a home where life and work quietly overlap.

About a year ago, she moved here with her husband, interior designer and creative director Isern Serra, and their two young twin daughters. The apartment sits on the top floor of a modest red-brick building designed by José Antonio Coderch — an architect both of them admire, and whose work Isern has explored in depth through his own practice.

Valeria’s creative background is expansive. With extensive experience across the creative industries, she moves fluidly between disciplines — from designing ceramic and glass objects under her own name to styling, photographing, and carefully directing how her work is visually communicated. When asked how she manages to hold so many roles at once, she smiles and answers simply:

“I’m like an octopus.” It’s a modest statement that perfectly captures her ability to multitask with instinct rather than effort.

Now, her focus is shifting. With a deep knowledge of glass and ceramics already embedded in her practice, she feels a growing urge to explore new territories. A recently launched collection of collectible design marks this transition — not as a break from what she knows, but as a natural extension of it. We talk at length about this shift, and about how her home plays a central role in it. The two worlds constantly intersect, informing one another through rhythm, materiality, and pace.

Yet, despite the importance of her studio upstairs, Valeria’s favourite place at home lies elsewhere. It’s the terrace. Sitting outside, she takes time to breathe, to pause, and to let her gaze drift across the unfolding cityscape. From there, Barcelona stretches outward — open, layered, alive. It’s a quiet reminder that while her work is rooted in objects and materials, it is equally shaped by perspective, space, and moments of stillness.
