The Conversation with Caisa

Tell us a little about yourself outside the studio — who is Caisa when she’s not designing?

Caisa is a mom of four and loves family life. She spends as much time as possible in nature—especially in the forest. Cooking a special meal is a kind of therapy in a hectic everyday life. She also loves to travel and explore new places.

You once shared a beautiful memory of your grandparents that stayed with you. Would you tell us that story again?

My grandmother was a painter, and together with my grandfather they had a big house in central Sweden. Food and crafts were a natural part of daily life. My grandfather had a carpentry workshop in the barn, and I spent a lot of time there.They were quite strict, and I learned to respect the process of making something from scratch. When you understand the work that goes into a piece, you truly learn to appreciate it.

When you design something new — be it a root table or a lamp — where do you usually begin? A drawing? A feeling? A memory?

Usually it starts with a quick sketch in my notebook—or on the corner of a piece of paper somewhere. These turn into a series of sketches, and some of them become prototypes. And from those prototypes, a few finally come to life.

Your pieces often seem raw and organic yet refined. Where do you think that aesthetic comes from?

I don’t try to tell stories consciously—I just create things that feel right and make sense to me. I always strive to make something different and beautiful.
But I love the idea that my pieces can become part of new stories in people’s lives.
