Stem Studio is a multidisciplinary design practice exploring the dialogue between idea, hand, and object. Rooted in material honesty and guided by a respect for traditional craftsmanship, the studio creates contemporary pieces that carry a quiet sense of timelessness. Each work is shaped by an intuitive process — balancing form and function, restraint and emotion — to reveal the inherent beauty of materials and the stories they hold.

In Conversation with Stem Design

Choose one material you return to again and again. What memory does it carry for you?

We have been working with Brass and I feel we still have a lot more to say with this material. I resonate with its natural properties. It has an ability to hold emotion and memory which feels very human to me. Over time, I've become more attuned to its properties and hence my designs are conscious of the limitations.

My partner and I are building Stem together. We got together for our shared ideologies and the same desire to create meaningful impact through design.

We came together with a sense of purpose, and we know that, between us, we hold the right ingredients to give form to what Stem stands for.

Is there an early memory — an object, a place, or a person — that first awakened your sensitivity to form and beauty?

For me, the best kind of presents were a box of different pencil grades, a box of colors with a hundred different shades. I would spend a lot of time creating gradients with the soft and hard pencils, which began taking shape as figures an objects. From very early on, I had begun to observe light. It is this natural calling that never let me drift very far from the idea of beauty.
