ÆTHER/MASS — Available through The Orb

The Parabole Chair is defined by a solid wooden structure and a clear, upright stance. Its proportions and weight give the object a sense of presence, recalling the chair’s historical role as a symbol of authority rather than everyday seating.

The name refers to the carved backrest, where material is precisely removed to form a curved recess. This intervention introduces a controlled contrast between mass and void, allowing the geometry of the chair to remain strict while softening its visual and physical presence.

ÆTHER/MASS, Objects Where Function And Meaning Converge

ÆTHER/MASS is a Brussels-based design practice founded in 2022 by Davy Grosemans. Rooted in a belief in deep collaboration between designer and artisan, the practice explores what becomes possible when conceptual vision meets mastered craftsmanship.

It emerged from an understanding of collaboration not as a division of labour, but as a shared act of creation. At its core lies the alliance between designer and maker — an exchange that expands possibility by drawing on skills refined through years of dedication.
