The Aperture Table is a functional object in which ornament emerges through subtraction rather than addition. Material is removed to create openings, and this same material is reused as structural elements, forming the legs.
The table is made from a single 30 mm thick solid aluminum slab. Thirty-two openings are cut using waterjet technology. No material is added; the object is produced entirely from the original slab. Through these perforations, the solid mass gains a sense of transparency. The top and bottom surfaces are finely sanded, while the edges and openings retain the raw traces of the waterjet process.
In this process, ornament and function are inseparable. Decoration is not applied, but results directly from construction, allowing the table’s visual and structural logic to reinforce one another.
