ÆTHER/MASS — Available through The Orb

The standing lamp is defined by a single vertical form reduced to its essentials. A curved volume in mirror-polished stainless steel rises from a grounded base, terminating in a narrow, linear light integrated into its edge.

The reflective surface absorbs and mirrors its surroundings, causing the object to visually recede despite its mass. Light is contained within the profile rather than projected outward, emphasizing silhouette, balance, and precision.

Firmly anchored to the floor, the lamp distances itself from conventional lighting typologies. It operates as a controlled, sculptural presence in which light functions as a measured condition rather than a dominant feature.

ÆTHER/MASS, Objects Where Function And Meaning Converge

ÆTHER/MASS is a Brussels-based design practice founded in 2022 by Davy Grosemans. Rooted in a belief in deep collaboration between designer and artisan, the practice explores what becomes possible when conceptual vision meets mastered craftsmanship.

It emerged from an understanding of collaboration not as a division of labour, but as a shared act of creation. At its core lies the alliance between designer and maker — an exchange that expands possibility by drawing on skills refined through years of dedication.
