Isern Serra Studio Visit
In Barcelona’s Poblenou district, Isern Serra’s studio unfolds more like a second home than a conventional office. Warm, quiet, and carefully composed, the space reflects the sensibility that defines his work: an approach to design where architecture, materials, and daily life merge into a calm, tactile environment.
Last autumn we visited the studio of Isern Serra in Barcelona’s Poblenou district — a neighborhood that has gradually become a hub for creative practices, design studios, and new cultural spaces.
Serra’s workspace sits within this evolving landscape, yet inside the atmosphere feels unexpectedly intimate. Rather than a traditional studio, the space resembles a lived-in environment: a place where design happens alongside daily rituals. Long tables, soft light, shelves of materials, objects collected over time — the studio feels less like an office and more like an extension of Serra’s way of living and thinking about space. It is here that ideas are developed, projects discussed, meals shared, and environments imagined.
The visit took place while Serra and his team were developing the interior design for The Orb’s future physical space in Lisbon, a collaboration that brings together our evolving universe of artists, designers, and cultural practices with his distinctive spatial language. Serra’s work often explores the relationship between atmosphere and functionality, creating interiors that are both minimal and deeply sensorial.
Our visit formed part of the Orbiting, an ongoing initiative by the Orb where we travel, meet creatives, and spend time inside the environments where their work takes shape.
